Poseido LXXII was imported into Australia in December 2006 from the Ganaderia Antonio Domínguez Galiano, breeders of pure Carthusian horses (Pura Estirpe Cartujana) near Seville in Spain, making him a true 'Andalusian'.

Poseido's movement is straight, and he possesses three correct gaits. His walk is good: active and neat, with a regular four beat rythym and good over track. His trot also good: it is rythmic and energetic, and shows good activity and cadence with an obvious ability to lengthen and collect. His canter is very good: it is extremely balanced and athletic, demonstrating good hindquarter activity, a clear three beats and a great deal of expression. He has an excellent character, and a very good temperament.

Poseido is a very 'typey' stallion, demonstrating the best characteristics of the pure Spanish horse. He is conformationally correct, and has good bone. He is very imposing, with a real 'look at me' presence, but he is very kind, willing and intelligent - which makes him easy to train. These are traits which he has passed on to his offspring.

Poseido LXXII is a pure Carthusian horse, whose bloodlines come mainly from the Salvatierra and Novales studs. His pedigree is littered with some of the best and most influential of Spanish stallions, giving him common ancestry with many of the top performing Spanish horses of today.

Poseido was approved for breeding in Spain (Aptitud Básica Reproductora). All horses contained in his direct pedigree have received higher breeding approval (Valorado anterior al Real Decreto) which can be applied for when the horse is 7 years old (this classification has not been offered in Australia to date). Poseido LXXII is very similar in type to his sire, Viajero V, and his grand-sire, Devoto II. He also has the characteristic Carthusian 'horns' on his head - quite fitting in this case, as his name translates as 'the Possessed'.

We selected Poseido LXXII after an extensive search as we felt that his good movement and conformation, coupled with his fantastic temperament and bloodlines would be a good match for Australian mares, providing us with offspring which will be just as much at home in the breed ring as in the dressage arena.

Poseido also has a great amount of personality, which makes him fun to be around; when he is not appropriating hoses to return the favour of a bath, or snaffling hats from unsuspecting heads, he is playing with his friend (and family dog) Mac. These two enjoy leaping and cavorting across the paddocks together. He is not quite as keen on our gaggle of geese visiting his paddock, however - he herds them out quite smartly. We hope to begin campaigning Poseido in late 2009.
