Visitor's Guide

We love visitors, and if you would like to meet any of our horses in person we'd be delighted to show you around. Please call us in advance to make an appointment, and to get directions on how to find us.

While visiting the farm, you'll see our stallion, mares and foals, and youngstock. We'll be happy to answer any questions you might have about Aquila PRE and our horses.

Sturdy, closed shoes are a must.

If you'd like to spend some more time in the area, we can suggest the following activities:

Stop off at Red Rock, on the north-western side of Colac. The area overlooks "a major volcanic complex consisting of several large maar craters and spectacular Lake Corangamite". Whilst you're here, you could drop in at the Red Rock Winery to sample some of the local wines, or to enjoy a meal at the cafe.

Drive through beautiful, rolling hills and forest to get to the picturesque 'dairy' town of Timboon, famous for the Timboon Cheese Factory. Timboon is also home to the Railway Shed Distillery, where Whiskey, Coffee Cream, Strawberry Schnapps and Vodka are produced. You can look through the Distillery, or sit down to enjoy a meal accompanied by a glass of Red Duck Beer (produced at a local micro-brewery) or a local wine.

The Distillery also sells fantastic local produce, such as:
- Cheese from the Apostle Whey Cheese company or Timboon Farmhouse Cheese
- Parratte smoked eels and smoked eel pate (caught in local rivers)
- Wines from Newtons Ridge (the winery also offers a 4-star B&B)
- Fresh & dried herbs, and mustards from Otway Herbs
- Premium quality ice cream in a range of irresistable flavours from Timboon Fine Ice Cream
- Belgian style chocolates and other mouth-watering sweets from George Chocolates
- Organic yoghourt and european-style quark
- Pale Ale, Amber Ale or Porter from the Red Duck micro-brewery
- Local honey from Heytsbury Honey
- Lucious, high flavour strawberries from Timboon's Berry World

Visit the stunning 12 Apostles or the Loch Ard Gorge on the Great Ocean Road. Ozact presents a Shakespearian play every year in summer at Loch Ard Gorge. Pick up some fresh crayfish (southern rock lobster) in Port Campbell whilst you're there.

Indulge your inner vulcanologist by visiting Camperdown, in the Lakes & Craters country. Lake Purrembete offers some of the best Trout and Chinook fishing in Australia, and lake Bullen Merri is a spectacular location for water sports. The annual Lakes & Craters Three Day Event is held between lakes Bullen Merri and Gnotuk.

Take a short course in Equine Artificial Insemination at Glenormiston College (1st - 5th December 2008).

Visit the magnificent Otway National Park, a cool temperate rain forest, and walk among the tree-tops on the 600 metre long, 25 metre high Otway Fly. The Otway National Park is also home to many of Australia's most loveable native animals.

Stop off at Otway Estate's Cafe and Restaurant, and try a glass of beer from their microbrewery, or a wine from their vineyard.

If you'd like to extend your stay in the area, we'd be happy to assist you in finding accomodation.
